The twelfth congress
[May 1987]
In May 1987, the 12th Congress of the CP met and discussed the policy of the two courses for the Greek society and the new form of development. In the Political Resolution the following is stated: «We are faced with two alternatives. One is the course of the two Party political System, which nails the socio-political life down to the ruling class policies and subjects the country’s as well as the people’s fortunes to the forces dependence on Big capital and the supranational authorities of the European Community. The other is the course of the Left, for a new type of development, for chance towards socialism, which will proceed by rupturing the system of dependence and monopoly rule». At the same time, the congress elaborated on the policy of «the socio-political rallying of the forces of change, which is a precondition of strategic importance for the change towards socialism and its integral constituent, too». This new type of development will be lead by a left wing government.
Based on the 12th Congress Resolutions, the CP proceeded in the formation of the «Coalition of the Left and Progress».
