The sixth congress

[December 1935]

In December 1935 the 6th Congress of KKE convened. The congress based itself on the resolutions of the 7th Congress of the Communist International and set tasks taking into account the danger of the establishment of a fascist dictatorship. This danger had become more direct after the restoration of monarchy with the spurious referendum of November 1935.

The Congress called all anti-fascist forces to unite so as to make a stand for democracy and peace. For this reason, it developed the policy for the United Front and the broad people’s Front for the trade union unity as the factors which could prevent the fascist dictatorship. It stated the slogan of «People’s Democratic Power» of the proletariat and the farmers which would be arrived at by the smashing of monarchy, fascism and the subsequent overthrow of the oligarchy. Regarding the danger of war, mainly from Italy, it claimed that «the duty not only to repel this immediate war threat but also to defend national independence and territorial integrity from foreign imperialists ... is placed upon the party.
