It made efforts to strengthen KNE politically and ideologically.
It developed an ideological and political front against the current of compromise and defeatism, which the bourgeois parties and the opportunists cultivate. It fought against the attacks of the social-democratic forces and Synaspismos (SYN), who aim to prevent the rallying of forces in a radical direction and to incorporate the popular movement into a policy of class-collaboration and compromise with the EU which their forces in the trade unions, mass organizations and in the Social Forums in Greece and in Europe promote.
Our Party gave importance to the development of struggle and rallying of forces against the capitalist restructurings. With at its centre the struggle of the working class and the its support for PAME. It tried to raise the mass nature, the orientation and activity of the trade unions, mass organizations, and the development of struggle with aims and demands which serve the needs of the workers and the popular strata.
It promoted the rallying of forces and struggles against the reactionary laws concerning democratic rights and liberties. It intervened in the development of the struggle of the small farmers, supported PASY and the development of the struggle of the other intermediate strata. It put forward its policy of alliances in local Government and in the fight against the anti-people measures which were put in place for the Olympic Games. It tried to create a climate of resistance, and alertness in the people against fatalism and imperialist barbarity in joint activity with intellectuals, artists and writers.
It supported and rallied forces in the struggles of the peace and anti-imperialist movement against imperialist wars and Greece’s participation in them. It protected the expression of solidarity with the peoples and movements which face imperialist aggression such as in Palestine, Cyprus, Cuba, DPRK, the people of Iraq, the people of Afghanistan, and the other peoples who suffer from wars, poverty, illness, environmental catastrophes, which spring forward from the imperialist new world order. The Party actively takes part in international meetings and demonstrations in condemnation of imperialist aggression and the imperialist wars of the USA-NATO-EU. It proceeded with bilateral and multilateral meetings with communist and workers’ parties and proposed coordinated common action. The Party contributed to the struggle against antisocialist propaganda and anticommunism, it expressed its solidarity with communists and other militants who suffer persecution.
The 17th Congress, while confirming the upward progress of the party from the period of rebuilding and the period after the 16th Congress, assesses that the Party could be in a better situation in the area of its ideological-political and could be strengthened organisationally.
The most important duty which the 17th Congress of the KKE set out,is the total political, ideological and organizational strengthening of the Party. The strengthening of the KKE is necessary condition for the construction of the Front and the development of the anti-imperialist. Anti-monopoly struggle, which can lead to the acquisition of power by the working class and its allies, to socialism, which is timely, necessary and the only answer to capitalist and imperialist barbarity, oppression and exploitation.
