The duty of ideological-political and organizational strengthening of the party
The criteria by which the progress of the party and its strength is judged, cannot be understood separately from each other despite the fact that each aspect of the party’s activity requires specific work and has its own special demands. The central pillar of the strengthening of the Party is the acquirement of competence, firmness and decisiveness in its activity based on the strategy of the Party. Each diversion from this line will bring the Party face to face with difficult problems.
The 17th Congress highlights the key factor in the strengthening of the Party: with responsibility above all of the CC and the other leading bodies, to assimilate deeply, in theory and in practice, the strategy of the Party and a united view on how it is to be projected. The character of the Front needs to be more deeply understood as a social-political alliance of anti-monopoly and anti-imperialist forces, which does not only seek to make gains, but to bring as its goal the acquisition of popular power. This view needs to permeate the daily work of the Party. And for it to be understood that the struggle for socialism must more concretely influence and impact on the activity of the Party today.
Today the conditions have matured so that this problem of leadership must be faced with ideological-political measures, and with a decisive improvement in its organizational policy, because in the future the Party will face more complex problems.
During the years to come, the people will find itself in an even more difficult position especially in the younger generation, if it does not react decisively. No variation in the management of capitalism can avert the outbreak of economic crisis in Greece.
The government changed, also the official opposition, however the political line which is followed remains basically the same, since between the two parties there do not exist programmatic differences. The opposition which is expressed between the two competitors does not negate at all the consensus of ND and PASOK parties at source: that the capitalist restructurings must be brought forward with swift reforms. There is no aspect of the rights of the people which does not find itself in the firing line of the anti-people policies: the problem of social security, pensions, unemployment, price rises, the reduction of the spending power of the workers, the problem of the privatisation, and marketisation of Education, Health and Welfare. Education, culture and social policy have been given over to the machinations of monopoly capital. Labour rights have received new wounds. Also the environment has been adversely affected, the quality of life of the workers, their health and safety at work. The small farmers and lower middle strata face a new attack whose aim is the concentration of production. Women and young people have become victims of the anti-people policies, flexible forms of employment and class exploitation. In the EU and its member states new reactionary measures are being prepared, a new wave of state suppression and violence to limit individual and collective rights, with as its pretext the struggle against “the terrorist threat”, The EU is set to become even more reactionary with its “Euro-constitution”.
It is necessary for the impact of the international developments on Greece to be explained, especially the inter-imperialist contradictions in our region and the Mediterranean strategy of NATO.
The developments in our country will be influenced by the developments in inter-imperialist rivalry and its interventions for the control of the regions of the Caspian, Black Sea and Siberia.
These developments can lead to equally rapid, but difficult to predict, socio-political developments.
