21st Anti-imperialist Weekend of KNE

The Youth paid tribute to the DSE and promised to carry out for an unrelenting struggle

In Nestorio in Kastoria, a border region in northern Greece, the 21st Anti-imperialist weekend of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) was held on the 7th and 8th of July. The events at this year’s Anti-imperialist weekend were dedicated to the heroic activity of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) during the Civil War in Greece, 1946-1949. In the framework of the weekend on Saturday evening, meetings were held in honour of the captains of the DSE, presentations and ideological lessons on history and the class struggle, while there was a rich programme of cultural and athletic activities for the thousands of members and friends of KNE who participated.

At the central meeting of the weekend, The Secretary of the CC of KNE, Theodoris Chionis stressed in his speech amongst other things: “The fighting men and women of the DSE, who fought with unprecedented daring, who shed their honourable and defiant blood on these mountains, were certain that their sacrifice would not be in vain. That the class struggle will not end with them, but will root the revolutionary seeds even deeper. That the KKE will move forwards. And a proof of this is that so many years later we are here and honour them. We are fully aware of the fact that in life, in practise, in the upturns and downturns of the struggle for the freedom from wage slavery, which is not easy, is not linear, against every difficulty and always moving forwards, we honour the dead of our people and party.

Because as proud as we may feel ,it is also difficult to honour your roots in practice and not just through talk, so that we honour our background - that we are of course the political grandchildren and great-grandchildren of all the DSE militants.

In our meeting with history with our ancestors, we think about and discuss the future. This is what they would have wanted. Our meetings in this place are not meetings in a museum. Every time we increase our strength. Through the acquisition of knowledge we forge our will to continue for the completion of the victory of the ideals for which the fighters of the DSE gave their lives. We must rise to and continue the heroic and revolutionary traditions of our party, the KKE. KNE is a school of militant revolutionaries and the history of our party is one of the best lessons. One of the basic lessons so that we can prepare ourselves theoretically, politically as well as organizationally for today’s and even more so for tomorrow’s duties for the struggle for the big battles which we have in front of us so that we can respond to all the major turning points of the class struggle and until the end for the overthrow of the exploitative system.” The Secretary of KNE concluded.
