Discussion on the programmatic statements of the government
An Aggressive Popular movement against the anti-people line of the government
The three-party government ND-PASOK-Democratic Left received, as expected, a vote of confidence in the parliament on Sunday 8/7. The deeply reactionary character of the programmatic statements of the new government as well as the strategic identification of all the parties which propagandise the EU one-way street and for this reason cannot constitute a way out for the people, were highlighted in the speeches of the GS of the CC of the KKE, Aleka Papariga and the MPs of the party who voted against the programmatic statements of the government. In her speech the GS, cde Aleka Papariga, underlined the political proposal of the party and noted the following: “Abolition of the Memorandum, unilateral cancellation of the debt and withdrawal from the EU, which we link with struggles for a more general political overthrow, these three demands together are political demands-links in the chain so that the people can develop an aggressive movement. This is the line of struggle to defend the interests of the workers, employees, self-employed and poor farmers.”
The renegotiation of the memoranda, even if it softens certain issues, cannot avert the relative and absolute destitution, the deterioration of the people’s living standards and the rights of the workers. Because whatever marginal changes occur will be neutralised by the measures and by the new ones which unfortunately and inevitably will arrive.
The Memorandum is an organized policy in order to depreciate the value of labour power. In a series of EU member-states, which do not have a memorandum, measures were taken similar to those of the Memorandum and indeed before the crisis. In Greece they had not been taken because there was resistance within the movement.
It is very difficult for partial or marginal gains to be made, concluded the GS of the CC of the KKE, regarding the demands for the defence of the workers’ interests when the general line of the mass people’s movement is not politicised to the necessary extent.
