The election activity of the KKE is in full swing

The election activity of the KKE is intensifying, despite the fact that it is not yet clear whether the early elections will take place on the 29th of April or the 6th of May. The members and cadres of the KKE are stepping up their efforts so that the political proposal of the KKE reaches every worker. Dozens of events, open rallies, speeches in factories and universities, visits of party cadre to other workplaces, small meetings in cafeterias and houses, where the workers can discuss the party’s positions with its cadres, are being carried out on a daily basis.

The GS of the CC of the KKE, Aleka Papariga, who is engaged in similar activity, this week spoke in the working class town of Elefsina (2/4) and stressed that:

“We say to the people that they should not be concerned, even if this may sound shocking, which of the two parties will come first and whether the Prime Minister will come from ND or from PASOK or whether they will agree again on Mr Papademos or some other alleged technocrat or another political personality.

And it has nothing to do with them, not because the question of who will be in government is of no interest to them. But it does not have anything to do with them, in regards to them hoping that some better government could emerge. In this sense only one thing should concern them: how on the morning of the 7th of May, certain possibilities and pre-conditions will be created, so that the people can achieve, with a movement which has been strengthened substantially, with a real counter-offensive, not just a slogan but in essence, the blocking of the worst of what will arrive in June- the first staging post for the measures, which in any case has been announced- as well as the measures which will follow (…)”

Aleka Papariga stressed that a pre-condition for such a thing is the strengthening of the KKE in the elections and added: “I assure you that after the elections, over the next years, the issue of the capitalist development path or the development path which we promote in the framework of our political proposal , which is addressed to non –communists regarding working class popular power and the people’s economy, are issues which in different ways, with polemics as well as with positive discussions, will come onto the agenda even more decisively.”

Aleka Papariga at a mass rally of students at the Athens Technical Institute (3/4) highlighted that “ If the people do not understand that they hold the keys to the developments in their hands and do not escape the logic of “we must have a government” or “it is important that we have a government which is not as bad as the other”, if they do not abandon this logic and do not develop their own activity and initiative, with old and new forms of organization, from the bottom up, if they do not aspire to the logic of rupture and conflict, even worse things will come, even worse developments.”

On Wednesday A. Papariga, the GS of the CC of the KKE, speaking in the popular neighbourhood of Kallithea (Athens), referring to the discussion about a “left government”, underlined amongst other things that: “Yesterday, Tsipras, for example said the following things to you. He says that when the government of the left is formed the bankers will hand over the keys to us. Do you know of any country where because a left government was elected and the banks handed over the keys to the government. It is the job of the people to take these keys without the agreement of the plutocracy and not of the government. We have forgotten Chile with the truly heroic Allende who preferred to die rather than surrender. We have forgotten Portugal, we forget what is happening in Venezuela. We forget what happened during the whole process, not that a left government was elected, but a government which in a certain phase was not 100% to the liking of the country’s plutocracy. And indeed Tsipras said the following. He said that the ship-owners are threatening that if there is a “left government” they will remove the Greek flag and raise the Liberian flag. But he says their villas are in Greece, we will tax them. Really, does anyone believe that by taxing the villas of the industrialists and ship-owners in Greece so much money can be gathered? You will let them keep their businesses, you will let them take their ships and leave Greece, you will let them keep their factories, and you will let them take their cash and leave and you will tax their villas. And by taxing the villas you will re-construct the economy and redistribute the wealth. Tax the villas, not socialization which is what we propose (…) we are talking about working class-people’s power. The immediate solution for the people, the solution today is a strong people and a strong KKE.”

In reference to the French elections she noted: “Look at the experience of France. Sarkozy succeeded the centre-left government, in which the communists and ecologists participated…. In the Presidential elections the CP called on the people to vote Chirac so that Lepen would not be elected. Now we face this. Indeed now they are using “Chrissi Avgi” (a fascist organization) as a bogeyman. Karatzaferis (leader of the nationalist LAOS party) has served his purpose, now they want to use the danger of fascism.

Now what are they saying in France? The first goal is for Sarkozy to go. Then what? It goes into the second round. If Sarkozy does not leave after the first round, in the second round-pay attention to the strategy of allegedly left-wing and progressive forces- where Sarkozy will be against the socialist, they will all support the socialist. When we say that the main goal is for Sarkozy not to be elected, it is like saying that it is our goal for ND not to form a one-party government. If we say this it is like saying to the people that they should vote PASOK.

Where there is no CP- a real one, not one with just the hammer and sickle but which supports the lesser evil- where there is no strong class-oriented labour movement and strong communist party, the movement is more vulnerable and the struggles are carried out more infrequently, and the opponent more easily controls them and it is more difficult for a European class-oriented movement to exist, which will achieve a coordinated offensive against the bourgeois class and its parties, in every country and in the EU as a whole.” Aleka Papariga stated in conclusion.

On Thursday (5/4) the GS of the CC visited the region of Kozani, where she spoke to workers in the thermal power station, to the students at the vocational high-school and at an open political rally. As Aleka Papariga stressed that the elections can offer an immediate solution. It must be transformed into the potential of the people to prevent the worst, which have already been decided on, so that the people can at some point be victorious in reality. The real militant solution is for the people to weaken as much as possible the ND-PASOK, the governing parties, together with the strengthening of the KKE with thousands of votes from young people and the working class. No government that will be elected has the will, ability or daring to come into conflict with the power of the business groups in Greece and Europe. We pose the KKE, in the frontline for the regeneration of the movement for new struggles, against the governments promoted by the other parties as well as our proposal for power: working class-people’s power.”
