Statement of the press office response to the invitation of the prime minister for a meeting with Aleka Papariga

The GS of the CC of the KKE, Aleka Papariga, did not accept the invitation of the Prime Minister Giorgios Papandreou to have a meeting. She considers that there is no topic for this particular meeting, when it is well-known that the positions of the KKE and the government are diametrically opposed. The KKE rejects the so-called medium-term programme that the government and its allies have formed, as well as its general political line. Besides G. Papandreou has stated that he will not take any step back from the goals which he has determined together with the Troika.

The KKE, as has always been the case, is not going to contribute in any way to the political line that massacres working class and popular rights. It calls on the workers not to fall into the trap of consent, through which the government and the EU seek the bankruptcy of the people, in order for capital to come out of the crisis, which it and its political representatives created, even stronger. Today the popular alliance to repel and overthrow this anti-people political line is more necessary than ever.
