A militant mass rally was held yesterday against the attack on collective bargaining agreements, labour relations, income, every social and social-security right

Yesterday evening thousands of workers, students, self-employed, women and poor farmers “welcomed” the head of the IMF Strauss-Kahn proudly and militantly with their contemporary needs as their “banner”. While the government and industrialists greeted their accomplice to their anti-people crimes, the working people of Athens demonstrated at the rally which was organized by PAME-PASEBE-PASY-MAS-OGE in Constitution Square that he was not welcome in Greece.

The preparation for the demonstration outside Parliament had begun from early in the afternoon. A massive banner with “Peoples of Europe, Rise Up” ,written in English, dominated the junction of Othon and Amalias street. The banner behind the podium wrote “Strauss-Kahn is not welcome in Greece. Rise up against the anti-people policies of the government-troika”. Beside the podium four dummies had been hung up representing the Association of Industrialists, the government, the IMF, and the leadership of GSEE. When the rally ended these figures which represented the government, the industrialists, the foreign imperialists and their allies and the government and employer-led trade unionism were burnt symbolically by the workers.

Aleka Papariga: A full-scale counterattack now

The GS of the CC of the KKE Aleka Papariga made the following statement yesterday at the demonstration of PAME concerning the visit of D. Strauss-Kahn:

“Time is running out. Right now we must launch a full-scale counterattack against the policies of the government and the Troika, which they have imposed on Greece. We have the ability to overturn this situation in due course. Not even one minute must be wasted.
