Die Linke and ELP have a “love that dare not speak its name” ….their compromise with the system and the imperialist organizations

The political scandal which has broken out concerning the Wikileak revelations about the German “left” party Die Linke, the “flagship” of the so-called Party of the European left (ELP), demonstrates once again the boundaries of certain political forces, which operate within both the framework of the system and in the service of its management

As was revealed, the American ambassador to Germany in a telegram informed Washington that in his meeting with Gregor Gyzi, President of the parliamentary group of the German ‘left”, the latter sought to appease him in relation to the demand that his party promotes concerning the “dissolution of NATO”. Gyzi is alleged to have said that what would be “dangerous” would be the demand for Germany’s withdrawal from NATO, and not the general demand for its ‘dissolution”. He added that in any case this could not happen, since for the dissolution of this imperialist organization to happen the USA, Britain and France would have to agree on it-something which is not realistic.

Of course Gyzi now claims that “he does not remember” his exact formulation and puts it down to an error in translation. The issue has of course provoked friction within the German “Left”.

Even if we accept that the American ambassador distorted some of what Gyzi said, it does not alter the essence of the matter! The essence is that the German ”Left” is vaguely and generally in favour of the “dissolution of NATO”, without pushing for withdrawal of specific countries from this imperialist organization. The formulation at the 3rd Congress of the ELP, in which Synaspismos was the participant from Greece, was very similar “demand for dissolution of NATO and calls for an international cooperative security system conforming to international law and to the principles of a reformed and democratised UN system.

All the above confirm in the most categorical way the assessment of the PB of the CC of the KKE, which in its recent statement on the so-called ‘new” NATO, noted amongst other things that “The demand for the dissolution of NATO promoted by several opportunist forces without being combined with the struggle for the disengagement of our countries from NATO sounds more like a priest’s prayer rather than a goal of struggle for the movement.”

In addition it has been demonstrated how correct the KKE was when it stated that the so-called ELP does not call the capitalist system and the imperialist organizations into question. The stance of the ELP in relation to the imperialist EU is well known, which it committed itself to serve in its statutes and now calls for its re-establishment, for its “purification” from the ‘profiteers” and ‘neo-liberalism”. At the same time it has been demonstrated how harmless the positions of the ELP are in relation to the imperialist organization, NATO- because its demand for the “dissolution of NATO” is not combined with the strengthening of anti-imperialist struggle for the withdrawal of every country from it, in this way it disorientates the popular movement and “soothes” the imperialists and the system.

Nevertheless, it seems that the opportunist forces in the ELP nurture a…. “love that dare not speak its name" in their line of compromise with the system and the imperialist organizations of the EU and NATO. The problem for these forces is that the peoples don’t mince their words when they see that they are being mocked in this way…
