The stance of KKE in the European Parliament on the Common resolution on Berlusconi and the media in Italy

We refused to participate in the final vote on a resolution that under the pretext of Berlusconi’s control over the Italian Media promotes the general interests of the plutocracy for the concentration of the media at national and European level. This resolution requires the issue of directives that will subject the right to information and the freedom of expression to the internal market and competition, imposing the manipulation of information by the big capital and the adaptation of the public service to private sector criteria and to the rules of the free market.

The centre-right and centre-left supporters of the EU-one-way road applaud and seek the blatant intervention of the EU into the internal affairs of its member states. They support the dominance of the big capital in the information sector. Through meaningless confrontations and hollow words, they seek to gain the favour of the bourgeois class for the promotion of its interests.

The media magnates intend to manipulate the consciousness of the workers in order to promote the anti-peoples policy of the capital which is implemented by the centre-right and centre-left governments.

Peoples are not deceived by the “quarrels” in the European Parliament and the efforts to present it as a censor, as it is a main pillar of capital’s interests.
