Statement by the KKE Eurogroup on the Cuban 5
The European Council gives full cover to the USA for the unfair imprisonment of the five Cuban patriots and their continuing detention in the American prisons under inhuman conditions.
This is shown by the reply of the European Council to the question of the MEP of KKE Giorgos Toussas. In his question, Giorgos Toussas condemned the arrest and imprisonment of the 5 Cuban patriots which was based on fabricated and false accusations and the abusive conditions of their detention including the prohibition to visit them imposed on their families as well as to a group of MEPs that submitted a formal request.
In his question, the MEP of KKE called the Council to condemn the continuing detention of the 5 Cuban patriots as well as the violation of their rights and the fundamental principles of the international human law by the USA and to adopt a stance towards the appeals of international and national mass organizations demanding their liberation.
In reply to the question the European Council mentions: “the Council is aware of the fact that in many cases the authorities of the USA have not given the permission to members of their families or to other person, including the group of the MEPs, to contact with the five Cubans who have been imprisoned by the USA under the accusation of spying. However, according to the UN Working Group on arbitrary detention, passport validation has been issued for the majority of the parents in order to visit their relatives”.
The Council denies adopting a stance towards the injustice arrest of the 5 Cuban patriots and the international demand for their liberation. At the same time it tries to provide excuses for the abusive conditions of their detention.
The hypocritical declarations of the EU for the respect of the human rights cannot conceal the fact that the EU is fully in line with the abusive violation of human rights by the USA.
