Solidarity Message to the PCP

Dear comrades

The Central Committee of KKE conveys warm militant greetings to the thousands of workers, of young people, of women, of immigrants that participate in the massive demonstration in Lisbon on March 1st for Democracy and Liberty responding to the call of the Portuguese Communist Party.

We greet the communists and all the progressive people that give a massive response to the anti-democratic legal framework which has been constructed –with the votes of PS and PSD- concerning the regulation of political parties and their funding; to the attempt made by these very same forces to further deteriorate it. It is clear that their common objective is to restrict the activity of PCP.
Dear comrades

The undermining of fundamental democratic rights, the further constraint of trade union and peoples’ liberties constitute an intrinsic feature of the capital’s offensive. They go hand in hand with the intensification of exploitation and the attack on the labour and social rights of the workers. Similar measures are also being promoted in Greece, as well as in the EU as a whole. Their first and foremost objectives are the communist parties and the peoples’ movements.

The repression and the persecutions against people who struggle, the intimidation by the bosses at the workplaces, the undermining of the right to strike are being accompanied with the creation of a legal framework that aims to shield the profits and the power of the monopolies. They pursue to interfere in the internal parties’ life and condition the right to organize and the political activity; at the same time they promote even more unjust electoral systems.

Dear comrades

The fight for the people’s liberties is an essential element of the anti-imperialist struggle of the people. It is organically connected with the struggle for social progress and socialism. We express our full support and solidarity with your fight in defence of the people’s democratic and social rights. Your struggle is ours as well.
