Statement by MEP of KKE: About the situation in Palestine

The criminal activities of the imperialists must be condemned

On behalf of the group of the Communist Party of Greece in the European Parliament, Giorgos Toussas, MEP, speaking in the plenary session of the European Parliament regarding the situation in Palestine made the following statement:

“The dramatic developments in the Palestinian territories during the last days, which have led in a civil conflict among the Palestinians, are the result of the criminal activity of the Israeli occupation army, as well as of the activity of the EU and US imperialists, in the framework of the promotion of their strategic plan, for the formation of the “New Middle East”, in order to gain control of the resources of those countries and to exploit the peoples in the region.

The non-recognition by Israel, the EU and the USA of the government designated by the will of the Palestinian people, through democratic, unimpeachable elections, as well as the imposition of the economical and political embargo on the Palestinian people, constituted the explosive mixture that created the conditions for the onset of conflicts among the Palestinians, so that the way for the imposition of imperialist adventuristic plans could be paved.

The 40-year occupation of the Palestinian territories and the ongoing Israeli murderous attacks, as well as the adventuristic activities of the EU and US imperialists against the Palestinian people and the Middle East in general, cannot be concealed by the demagogical statements of the representatives of the governments of the member-states, who participated in the recent General Affairs and External Relations Council in Luxembourg, neither by today’s discussion during the European Parliament plenary session. The hypocritical and demagogical calls for peace and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people cannot convince anybody.

This is why it is necessary to condemn the criminal activities of the EU, US and Israeli imperialists. It is necessary to express practical solidarity with the Palestinian people, in order to avert a generalized imperialist intervention in the region, to reinforce the struggle for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
