Protest to the Embassy of Poland in Athens

To the Embassy of Poland in Athens
Attn: Mr. Ambassador
Athens

Athens, 4/4/2007

Esteemed Mr. Ambassador

A recent information regarding the new law penalizing the political views of hundreds of thousands of citizens of your country penalizing their political beliefs, as well as the measures against the fighters of the heroic International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War 1936 spread great concern and indignation not only among communists but also in the whole public opinion of our country.

These intimidating and revengeful measures are directed against those that have fought against fascism, for peace, social progress and the building of the socialism we have known.

In Greece, as well as elsewhere, the popular admiration for the struggles of the anti-fascist fighters has been always present, and this in spite of the persecutions, of thousands executions, of innumerous imprisoned and exiled for decades by the official state.

The historical truth will always be a source of inspiration for the young generation and the workers. No governmental decision, no measure of intimidation and state terrorism can blank it out or distort it even if they meet the consent of European Union and other imperialist organizations.

This is why the actions aiming at the penalization and repression of the communists, of their ideology and action will meet all the more strong, decisive and mass resistance. Furthermore, we believe such measures aim to undermine the rights of all workers, and the aspirations for another future for the people.

We express the resolute solidarity of the Greek communists to the rising movement of protest and we demand along with it the immediate revocation of these unacceptable anticommunist and antidemocratic measures, as well as the rehabilitation of the Polish fighters. We assure you that this demand meets the feelings of the great majority of the Greek people.

We kindly ask you to forward this letter to the President of Poland, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the Seim of Poland

For the Central Committee of KKE

Aleka Papariga
General Secretary
