Regarding the bloody clashes among hooligans in Athens

The one dead and the many other seriously injured as result of the organized violence which characterize more and more the sports events in Greece are expression of the hypocritical stand and the big responsibilities of New Democracy government as well as of the previous ones. These governments are now accountable for their active support to the commercialization of sport and for having opened the door to all kinds of corporate “sponsors”.

The violence in the sports area is not at the charge of some “fools” as stated by government and businessmen. Accountable are all those ”creating” and using for their purposes persons like those. Responsible are all those who, by exploiting and infesting sports and sports teams, promote their narrow interests and foster corporate profits.

In our view real fight against violence means, first of all, rejection of merchandizing of sports, ban of any access to sports business to entrepreneurs and breaking of the multiple “connections” created by these businessmen.

Once again it became evident that the main task of the police forces is the suppression of the popular movement and not the fight against crime. The most eloquent prove was provided even today when police forces brutally attacked, without any pretext, members of KKE and KNE just in front of the offices of the KKE Athens organization in the very center of the city. In the same nothing was done against big “armed”, motorized and organized groups of hooligans free circulating in the streets of Athens.

KKE appeals to its supporters to protest against the responsible for this dangerous and completely unacceptable situation that prevails in the field of football and sports in general. To fight for the people’s right in the sports, and to demand the ban of any kind of commercialization of the sports activities.
