Massive protests against the new higher education bill

The bill on higher education, that totally subjugates the public universities to the companies and the laws of the capital, was voted at the parliament by the MPs of New Democracy on March 8th.

At the same time tens of thousands of students were demonstrating in a formidable rally in central Athens against the governmental plans. The KKE in a press release greeted the students’ struggles and denounced the plan of extensive provocations, carried out by the police forces and the “unknown” riot groups in an effort to have the students’ movement slandered and intimidated.

In spite of the provocations and the repression the students’ protests lasted till the late afternoon when they were also joined by a massive workers’ demonstration organized by PAME for the collective contracts.

The university students stressed that they would continue their struggles against the implementation of the new law, nullifying it in practice.

New demonstrations and rallies have already been announced for next week
