Al. Papariga meets with rectors

Communist Party of Greece (KKE) general secretary Aleka Papariga met on 29/01/2007 with the rectors of four of the largest universities in the country - Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and the Athens Polytechnic -- following a request by the rectors.

The contacts coincided with a three-month campaign by KKE and KNE, to brief public opinion over the party's positions on the reactionary reforms promoted by the Greek government in the line with the EU demands.

The four rectors in question are among the bloc of top university administrators calling for a delay in the government's efforts to reform tertiary education and against a constitutional revision of the article 16 that would allow the recognised operation of non-state universities in the country.

Actually more than 300 faculties are under siege protesting the governments reforms. In a 2 day-strike are also the professors of all the universities of the country.
