Letter to the President of the Czech Republic protesting the ban of KSM and the treats against CPBM

On the occasion of the official visit of the President of the Czech Republic in Greece, a delegation of KKE headed by Spyros Halvatzis member of the Political bureau and member of the Council of the City of Athens and Vera Nikolaidou member of the Greek Parliament visited the Czech Embassy in Athens on 22 November and over handed the following letter:

Mr. President,

By this letter we would like to express our concern regarding some recent developments in the Czech Republic, a nation which you represent at the high level of the President of the Republic.

It is with great concern that the Communist Party of Greece has been informed on the ban of the activity of the Communist Youth Union, decided recently by the Ministry of Interior with the argument that KSM promotes in its program the need of abolishment of private property of the means of production. This decision flagrantly violates the democratic rights and the freedom of debating ideas. The measure raises serious doubts regarding the level of democracy implemented actually in your country.

With the same concern we have been just informed on the decision by the Czech Senate to analyze the constitutionality and to investigate the legality of the existence of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia. This fact leads us to the impression that in your country a new witch-hunt has started against the communists and their ideology. Something what inevitably recalls the memories of the results of certain historical moments in which the communist ideas had also been persecuted and oppressed.

Our country and our people, which have suffered very hard from repressive measures against the communists and massive violations of democratic liberties, are very sensitive regarding measures like those implemented today in the Czech Republic.

All the more so, since it is broadly known the great contribution and support of the Communist Party of your country to the communists and other democrats hardly fighting in the difficult moments of the recent history of our country. We are certain that the same invaluable contribution is exercised actually by the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, with its big influence and respect not only among the people of your country but also in Europe and in the world, thanks to his activity for the benefit of the democratic rights, the living standard of the working people, for peace, international cooperation and friendship.

By this letter we would like to also to remind you some historical facts deeply influencing the path of all the European peoples. We add our voice to the large protest and absolute rejection regarding the unacceptable measures against the communists and the democratic rights in your country and demand their immediate revocation.
