KKE Condemns Greek participation in the military mission to Lebanon
Athens, 6 September 2006
The Press Bureau of the CC of KKE issued the following statement about the governmental decision to dispatch a Greek frigate to the UN intervention force in Lebanon.
“The government of New Democracy assumes huge responsibilities with its decision to send the Greek Frigate and other military forces to Lebanon.
The role of the so-called “peacekeeping mission” of the UN is clear-cut and defined: it is an army of occupation and imposition of the imperialist designs, a force that will pointedly intervene in the internal affairs of Lebanon, against the interest of all peoples of the region. The mission of that force is to accomplish what the Israeli invaders failed to achieve, to disarm the armed popular resistance.
The Greek government is faced with a merciless question: will the Greek naval and military forces reinforce the unacceptable and provocative naval blockade of Lebanon by Israel or it is going to participate in a force replacing it. Either option constitutes an unacceptable and dangerous engagement. All parties must take an unambiguous position against the mission, muttering means agreement and consent.
KKE calls upon the Greek people to condemn and express its opposition to this aggressive decision of the Greek Government.
Solidarity with the peoples’ struggle
