A. Papariga about the phone-tapping case in Greece
The General Secretary of the CC of KKE, Aleka Papariga, speaking to the press on Thursday February 2, made the following statement about the phone-tapping case revealed in Greece
“In our opinion this case is just a branch of the big and bushy tree of a generalized surveillance and monitoring of parties, governments and movements, for the benefit of countries, governments, intelligence services and business groups. In our opinion this serves a double objective: It aims at creating preconditions for delivering a blow on the radical movement, but also for gathering information about the war taking place among countries, governments and business groups.
Further on, wiretapping through a network of modern cellular telephones may appear innocuous when today there is the “Echelon” system which monitors literally everything, when there are various other ways, satellites and various systems.
This does not mean that we are facing the issue in a fatalistic manner, nor do we believe that we must put the blame on the new technologies for being at the service of monitoring movements, citizens and parties. The problem is that those who have the sweet melon also hold the knife (ie, the one who has the ownership has the control). And, of course, we believe that not only members of the government have been under surveillance. Only a simple branch of the case has been brought into surface ."
