Aleka Papariga Raises Anti-Communist Motion In Meeting With The PM
The General Secretary of the CC of KKE Aleka Papariga on Wednesday, January 11, met with the prime minister Costas Karamanlis. In the meeting she raised the issue of the anti-communist draft at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly Council of Europe. PM Costas Karamanlis also informed about the planned revision of the Consitution.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Aleka Papariga said she asked the prime minister that the ruling New Democracy party's (ND) delegation at the PACE vote against the "fascist memorandum".
She further said that all political parties should reject the memorandum regardless of their ideological convictions and their own opinion on about communism and communist ideology. What is at stake, she added, is whether in the coming years the people will have the right to demand with struggles the solutions to their problems, and whether the communist parties will have the right to express their views and to participate in the efforts for the development of the people’s struggles.
The General Secretary of the CC of KKE also referred to the issue of the abduction and interrogation of Pakistanis, and underscored that they were carried out under agreements that had been signed by the previous PASOK government, which gave the right to the Americans and the British services to act in Greece.
Finally, she commented on some views that raise a point of “observance of legality”, saying the KKE does not agree with the way it is being put given that reactionary laws were being passed every day. What is needed is to abolish the reactionary laws and not to vote more of them and then call for their respect. There is no legality when the collective, but also the individual, rights of the citizens are being violated, she concluded.
