Short Info On The Actions In Strasbourg On January 24, 2006

On January 24, 2006 Mr. Rene van der Linden received at 8:30 in the building of Council of Europe in Strasbourg a limited delegation composed by Liana Kanelli, MP with KKE and member of PACE, Guenady Ziuganov, President of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, member of the Russian State Duma and member of PACE, Diamando Manolakou member of the European Parliament with KKE /GUE/NGL, H.Papamargaris representative of the “Campaign for democratic Rights and Liberties” and Eva Mella President of the Greek Association of  Plastic Arts.

The delegation informed on the campaigns in the various countries demanding the rejection of the anticommunist draft resolution and over handed the joint statement signed by 76 communist and workers parties during the Athens meeting on November 2005, the statements of various communist and workers parties issued after December 14, 2005, the letter of M. Theodorakis, the petition signed by 42 Members of the European Parliament, the petitions and the signatures collected at the on-line petitions http://www.no2anticommunism.org and http://red.kke.gr as well as thousands of petitions and statements issued in Greece.

At the same day a march, arranged by the French comrades of URCF and PRCF, take place in the center and the main streets of Strassbourg from 11 to 12:00.

The demonstration started from Palace de la Republique and finished on the building of the Council of Europe.

The march was attended by hundreds of participants coming from PTB of Belgium, AKEL Cyprus, DKP Germany, SDAJ Germany, KKE, KNE, PAME, Resistance fighters and other organizations from Greece as well as from the KKE branches in Belgium and Germany, PRCF and URCF France, KPL Luxembourg, NCP Netherlands, PCP of Portugal, CPRF Russia headed by comrade G.Ziuganov, Communist Party of Peoples of Spain, EMEP and ODP from Turkey and the Association of Turkish Workers in Germany as well as by the Union of the Antifascists from Germany..

In the building of the Council of Europe take place a press conference in protest of the anticommunist motion with speeches delivered by members of PACE of KKE, of CPRF of Russia represented by comrade G.Ziuganov, of AKEL of Cyprus represented by the vice chairman of the GUE Group comrade Doros Hristodoulidis MP, of CPBM represented by comrade J. Exner MP, of PCP Portugal represented by comrade Hanibal Fernandos MP and of PASOK represented by Mr. Theodoros Pangalos former foreign minister.

During the press conference a report was delivered on the range of the protests in all Europe included about the motion with 150 signatures of well know personalities from Luxembourg collected by the comrades from KPL.  

The meeting was attended by representatives of the communist and workers parties as well as by the representatives of the various Greek trade unions and organizations arrived in Strasbourg in order to protest..

Present were also the PASOK delegation to PACE composed by N.Alevras and D. Vretos former ministers and M.Damanaki.

During the press conference an other group of comrades continued the protest in face of the PACE building.

The KKE representative to PACE has on January 25 morning, informed also the socialist and popular group on the actions against the motion asking for a resolute rejection.
