International conference against NATO in Istanbul
The Communist Party of Turkey has organized an international conference on the opening day of NATO Summit in Istanbul on 28th and 29th of June, 2004 at TKP's Beyoglu, Istanbul office. The conference under the topic "The New Roles of NATO in Imperialist Scenarios - How to Stop NATO?" had contributor communist and workers' parties, organizations and intellectuals from many countries.
In the conference, contributors spoke about the imperialist policies that are being implemented today, new roles of NATO within that framework, the position of their countries within NATO, and the conditions of anti-NATO struggle in their countries.
The opening speech of the conference was given by Kemal Okuyan, the General Secretary of the communist Party of Turkey. Okuyan told about the success of the anti-NATO campaign in Turkey and explained Turkey's originalities. Okuyan also made some concrete proposals about the next period of anti-imperialist struggle.

The final resolution of the conference has been stated as follows:
"As a result of the conference organized by the Communist Party of Turkey under the topic "The New Roles of NATO in Imperialist Scenarios - How to Stop NATO?" on 28 June 2004 in Istanbul against the NATO Summit, which is held on 28-29 June 2004 in Istanbul, we the communist and workers' parties as well as organizations and intellectuals express our categorical opposition to the NATO Summit and its content:

The final resolution of the conference has been stated as follows:
"As a result of the conference organized by the Communist Party of Turkey under the topic "The New Roles of NATO in Imperialist Scenarios - How to Stop NATO?" on 28 June 2004 in Istanbul against the NATO Summit, which is held on 28-29 June 2004 in Istanbul, we the communist and workers' parties as well as organizations and intellectuals express our categorical opposition to the NATO Summit and its content:
- We condemn the NATO Summit that is being held in Istanbul and the decisions of this aggressive political - military organization to intervene various parts of the world.
- We demand that the occupation in Iraq should be brought to an end straight away, and the foreign troops deployed in this country should be immediately withdrawn.
- We firmly believe that solidarity with the Palestinian people is an obligatory part of the fight against imperialism and thus should be further elevated.
- We consider the unveiling of the ritical role played by NATO as the watchdog of privatizations and all other economic and social assaults against the working classes to be an urgent task within the struggle against NATO."
