[23.05.2006] About the collision of Greek and Turkish F-16s over Aegean Sea
The collision of the two F-16s indicates that there is an immediate and imperative need for the people of Greece and Turkey to jointly face the tensions created by the contradictions and plannings of US, NATO and the EU, as well as by the antagonism between the Greek and Turkish plutocracy in the region. This is especially important in a period when the ground is being prepared for a military intervention in Iran, and for the redrawing of borders in the Balkans.
This incident, unfortunately, comes to confirm the positions and warnings of KKE that NATO - US - EU are not forces that operate in favour of stability, for peaceful and just resolutions of problems, but on the contrary they constitute factors of inflammation, of encouragement and support for Turkish aggressiveness.
Greek sovereign rights are being disputed within the framework of NATO, as a consequence encouraging the claims raised by the Turkish leadership. The "grey zones" in the Aegean sea (i.e. areas whose sovereignty is disputed by Turkey) are created with the support of the US. At the same time it is once more revealed that the notorious "aquis communitaire" of the EU - an argument that the parties supporting the EU "one-way" constantly invoke- is void of content also in relation to threats of war, violations and provocative claims for border changes.
The peoples of the two countries share a common path for achieving and safeguarding peace, respect and stability of the borders and relations equitable and mutually beneficial to the peoples: that is the path of their joint struggle against their common enemies, the plutocrats and the imperialist organizations.
