[28.04.2006] Joint statement of communist parties from Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey
The visit of the US State Secretary provoked the justified indignation and a large protest of the working people and youth in our countries since it brought nearer the treat for a new imperialist war, this time against the people of Iran, and contributed to a more active engagement of our countries in the aggressive, antihuman US and NATO options.
Our parties salute the NO, addressed in such a combative and massive way to the ambassador of state terrorism and of preventive wars, a policy which takes full responsibility for the lost lives of thousands in Palestine, Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq, for Abu Graib and Guantanamo, for the secret detention camps of CIA as well as for the poverty and misery of million people, the arms race and the explosion in the oil prices.
The sharpening of the antagonism between the imperialist powers over the energy resources and pipelines, so clearly stressed during the visit of C. Rice, will lead to new treats for the stability and security in our neighborhood. This same policy furthermore fuels the rivalry between US and EU over increased military presence in the region but also on issues like the redesign of borders in Kosovo, the new “solutions” at the expenses of the Cypriot people, the managing of the situation in FYROM, the extension without limits of the NATO presence in the Balkans or the full range of new dictates for the working people and youth in Turkey.
The visit of C. Rice was connected with new demands regarding a “more active support” for the US policy in Afghanistan and Iraq, the opening of new US bases in Bulgaria but also regarding the further enlargement of NATO as well as the preparations for new military actions in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
We demand:

- Withdrawal of all foreign troops from Iraq, Afghanistan and from the Balkans.
- Rejection of any attempt to change borders in the Balkans.
