Fine-tuning the Party's general policy on women

Fine-tuning our general policy on women is not a problem of elaborating positions and proposals, which is not to imply that there are no gaps and omissions here too. The main problem is to deal with the accumulation and crystallisation of mistaken views about whether there is a need to fine-tune our work among women today. Up to the present, no significant progress has been made, and the attitude on this issue must literally change, so that throughout the Party, there is well thought-out activity among women included in the more general planning of our action.

There is, then, an acute problem in terms of understanding the necessity to fine-tune the Party's general policy on women. The following factors must be given serious consideration:

  •  The strategy of the ruling class and of management to use tradition and religion to perpetuate the political manipulation of women and to disseminate pseudo-modern views that ignore the importance of the class struggle. Working women are used as a vehicle to extend flexible, temporary forms of employment.
  •  Under conditions of decline or stagnancy in the movement, women are more likely to withdraw. However many changes have taken place in women's way of life, they are still the greatest victims today in terms of the lack of leisure time. The result is that women's participation in the movement and in the Party becomes difficult, as does their promotion to higher bodies of the movement and the Party. Other parties deal with the issue through quotas that favour women who are comparatively more privileged from the point of view of income and living conditions. A characteristic of our Party is its action to enhance the political awareness of women who belong to the working class and the other strata of the people, and young women.
