Solidarity of the KKE with the Struggle of the Colombian People

The MEP of the KKE, Giorgos Toussas, in his intervention to the Council of the European Union denounced the anti-people political line of the Colombian government, the persecution, arrests, imprisonment of thousands of political prisoners, murders of militants as well as the support provided to it by the EU with the enhancement of its relations through the free trade agreement between the EU and Colombia. At the same time he expressed the solidarity of the KKE with the struggle of the Colombian people to break the chains of capitalist exploitation, so that the people become the masters of their country. The MEP of the KKE underlined the following in his intervention:

“The anti-people political line of the Colombian government continues with undiminished intensity, as well as the persecution against the people’s movement, the arrests and imprisonments, the murders of trade unionists and militants, the repression of the Colombian people as a whole. The enhancement of the relations EU-Colombia with the signing on the 23-2-2011 of the free trade agreement strengthens the anti-people government of Colombia, with painful consequences for the working class and the popular strata of the country. Joaquin Perez Becerra a militant of Swedish nationality and thousands of other political prisoners remain in prison. On the 14^th of October of 2012 in Oslo discussions are beginning between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the Colombian government. Nevertheless FARC-EP continues to be included on the EU list of “terrorist organizations”, while the “witch-hunt” against persons who are considered to have relations with them continues.

The Council is asked:

“Does it condemn the continuing aggressiveness of the Colombian government, the persecution, arrests, imprisonment of thousands of political prisoners and the murders of militants? Does it intend to delete the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People’s Army (FARC-EP) from the EU’s list of “terrorist organizations”? Does it agree with the people’s demand for the immediate liberation of political prisoners from Colombian prisons?”
