Comment of the International Relations Section of the CC of the KKE

The KKE is “a thorn in the side” of the bourgeoisie and the opportunists

The international media are still concerned with the post election developments and the result of the elections on 6th May.

Over the last days we read amongst others the report of the left German newspaper “Junge Welt” from Athens which while it extols the election result achieved by SYRIZA, a coalition of opportunist forces and forces that left the social democrat and former governing party PASOK, it refers to the election result of the KKE in a hostile and contemptuous manner claiming amongst others that “it was voted merely by the traditional electorate of the party”.

In this way, the correspondent of this newspaper conceals the fact that despite the political pressure exerted by the forces of opportunism the KKE not only did not abandon its programme and principles, not only it did not decline in the elections but it also had a small increase both in the percentage and the number of votes.

Specifically, the KKE has achieved the highest percentage of votes approximately in the last 30 years (since 1985) i.e. 8,5% which means 1% increase compared to 2009. Again it exceeded half million of votes (536.072) and had a rise of 19.000 votes gaining 5 more seats in Parliament (26 out of the 300 seats of the Greek Parliament). In many workers’ and people’s neighborhoods the KKE has achieved a high percentage of votes which is twice as muchas its percentage at national level while for the first time it took the first position in an election district (Samos-Ikaria) gathering 24,7% of the votes.

The correspondent of the German newspaper turned a blind eye to fact that thousands of working people appreciated the militancy, the consistency and the truthful clarity of the words of KKE, the militancy and selflessness of the communists, men and women, and supported it in the ballot box.

In the elections of 6th May the KKE submitted its political proposal for the struggle for workers’ and people’s power. The political proposal of the KKE regarding the struggle for working class-people’s power will find itself at the epicentre in the next period, as the difference between a government and real people’s power will become even clearer, as well as the overall proposal concerning the immediate issues of the people’s survival and working class popular power. From this standpoint political electoral activity of the KKE in harmony with its strategy, as is proper, constitutes an important legacy for the next political battles.
