The 48hr Seamen’s strike

The two day strike struggle of the seamen on the 10th and 11th of April was a success. PAME supported the struggle with all its forces.

This strike was a tough class confrontation against the ship-owners, capital as a whole, the PASOK-ND coalition government and the other parties of the system, the mechanisms and the bourgeois media which began the offensive against the strike. They specifically accused the seamen, PAME and the KKE, which supported the struggle, that with the strike they were allegedly “destroying the economy”, “destroying tourism”, that the “islands’ agricultural products will rot”, “the travellers will suffer” etc.

Their goal was to conceal the message sent to all the workers of disobedience to the capitalist barbarity, for the overthrow of this political line which hammers wages, rights, collective agreements, dismantling what has remained of free healthcare and medical cover.

The answer to the anti-worker and anti-communist offensive was provided first of all by the seamen themselves, who for two days fully participated in the strike, as well as by other workers, youth, self-employed, farmers, who strengthened their solidarity with the working class strike struggle.
