The strike struggle does not stop!
Despite the election campaign, which has begun in Greece for early elections, expected to be held most probably on the 6/5, the strike struggle of the workers, in which the All-workers Militant Front (PAME) plays the leading role, does not stop!
Yesterday’s 24hr strike by the Federations in Food and Beverage sector , in Construction as well as the class-oriented forces in the private health sector was an important contribution to the organization of the struggle against the unrelenting anti-worker measures and for the signing of collective bargaining agreements with wage increases.
From the crack of dawn the workers were to be found outside the factories at the factory gates all over the country, protecting the strike, while many private clinics functioned only with emergency personnel.
In Attica, many of the largest monopolies in the Dairy, Food and Drink sector closed because of the strike (FAGE, COCA-COLA,TASTY, EBGA, MEBGAL, NOUNOU) etc the success of the strike was also significant in the rest of the country with mass participation in AGNO (Thessalonica), BIKO, ZAGORI, COCA-COLA and AVRA (Patras-Agio), CHIPITA (Lamia).
Many construction sites all over Greece came to a standstill while the strike was also successful in the private health sector and the large private hospitals which can be characterised, from the standpoint of labour relations, as ghettoes.
The people’s committees from the neighbourhoods as well as trade unionists from other sectors stood at the factory gates with the strikes in order to express their solidarity.
The battle was successfully waged despite the efforts to undermine through the intimidation and terror tactics of the employers. The role of the compromised leaderships which belong to the ITUC was once again revealing as they not only undermined the strike but in many work places acted as the guard-dogs of the employers, regurgitating its intimidating dilemmas or sowing complacency that e.g. “here we are alright compared to other factories...” It was demonstrated that the workers not only should not trust them but should turn their backs on them and organize the struggle without them.
In Athens and in other cities strike rallies were held with thousands of participants.
