Significant response to the KKE’s initiative for the recognition of an independent sovereign Palestinian state
Press Statement
The delegation
of the KKE returned from Palestine and Israel in Friday 8th
July, which had made the visit within the framework of the party’s
initiative for the recognition of the independent sovereign Palestinian
state. Comrades G. Marinos, member of the PB of the CC and member
of the national parliament, G. Toussas, member of the CC of the
KKE, MEP and responsible for the Section of European policy of the KKE,
E. Vagenas, member of the CC and responsible for the International
Relations Section of the CC and O. Maita, collaborator of the
International Relations Section of the CC participated in this delegation.
It should be noted
that the KKE stands resolutely at the side of the Palestinian people
and organizes multi-faceted activities to express the solidarity of
the Greek workers with its just struggle. In addition it condemns the
Greek government of PASOK for the development of military cooperation
with Israel, and denounced the recent decision of the Greek government
to hinder the mission of humanitarian aid to the hard-pressed people
of Palestine.
The delegation
of the KKE in Palestine carried out a series of meetings with representatives
of the Palestinian Authority, all the Palestinian political forces,
as well as with Israeli political forces, where it presented the
initiative of the KKE, which was manifested at a particularly crucial
phase in the development of the struggle for the formation and recognition
of a Palestinian state, a few weeks before the key General Assembly
of the UN.
Specifically it
met in Ramallah with Foreign minister of the Palestinian Authority,
Riyad Al-Maliki, as well as with:
- Delegation of the Palestinian People’s Party, headed by the GS of the party, Bassam Al-salhi
- Delegation of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, headed by Abderahim Malouh, member of its PB.
- Delegation of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, headed by Ramzi Rabah, member of its PB.
- Delegation of Fatah headed by Azam Al Ahmad, who heads the parliamentary group of Fatah.
- Delegation of Hamas, headed by the Hamas MPs Abedl Jaber Fokaha and Mahmoud Musleh
- Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), and responsible for the Service of the Palestinian Authority for the Palestinians of the Diaspora, Taysir Κhaled.
- Delegation of the CP of Palestine, headed by its GS Mahmoud Saade.
During its stay
in Ramallah, the head of the KKE delegation, G. Marinos, gave
a joint press conference with the GS of the Palestinian People’s Party,
Bassam Al-salhi.
In addition, the
KKE delegation met in Jerusalem (in the Knesset) with a delegation of
the CP Israel and Hadash (Democratic Front for peace and Equality),
which was made up of Hana Sweid, head of Hadash’s parliamentary
group, Dov Khenin, Hadash MP, Afu Agbaria, member
of the PB of the CP Israel and MP, and Aida Touma
member of the PB and responsible for international relations of the
CP Israel.
The initiative
of the KKE which was expressed through the decision of the PB of the
CC of the KKE includes in short:
- A continual decisive front against imperialism and within this framework the struggle for the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces, for an independent, sovereign, viable Palestinian state, with the 1967 borders, that is to say before the “6 Day War”, which Israel unleashed, and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
- Return of the refugees, based on the UN decisions.
- Removal of the settlers.
- Demolition of the wall
- Liberation of the political prisoners
The delegation
of the KKE presented the proposal of the KKE at the press conference
and in all the aforementioned meetings. This proposal was warmly greeted
and met a significant and positive response.
The KKE sees the
creation of the Palestinian state in opposition to the plans of the
USA and the EU, which in essence have in mind a formation with limited
sovereignty. In addition, the KKE savages the stance of equal distances
between the persecutor and the victim which the EU follows, as well
as the similar stance of social-democracy and the opportunist forces
in Europe, such as the so-called “European Left Party” (ELP).
Finally, it should
be note that in the context of the initiative of the KKE, the GS of
the CC of the KKE, Aleka Papariga sent a letter to the Prime
Minister of Greece, G. Papandreou, demanding from him that Greece support
the request for the recognition of Palestine as a member-state of the
UN.
