Concert dedicated to Manos Chatzidakis honors 90th anniversary of KKE
A big concert, organized by the CC of KKE took place yesterday in the archeological site of Roman Agora at the foothill of Acropolis in Athens, dedicated to the great Greek composer Manos Chatzidakis. The concert was attended by the President of the Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias and the President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias, Aleka Papariga heading a delegation of the CC of KKE. Also present were the Ambassadors of Cuba, and Cyprus, the Greek Minister of Culture, representatives of the presidium of the parliament, the charge d’affairs of the embassies of China, Palestine and Venezuela, a delegation of the Lebanese CP, representatives of numerous mass organizations and thousands of people.
The initiative took place in the frame of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the party and followed a series of cultural events that took place this year under the auspices of KKE about Ilya Erenburg, Maxim Gorky, Mayakovsky, as well as a big concert dedicated to Yiannis Ritsos and Mikis Theodorakis.
In the opening speech, the member of the PB of KKE Theodoros Tziatzis underscored that during the 90 years of the KKE history a big number of artists and intellectuals have stood by its side and expressed the struggles of the Greek people in pieces of art of high quality. At the same time, KKE always supported artists who with their work reflected the dreams and aspirations of the people, their problems and the social contradictions without beautifications.
Chatzidakis stands among them, he said, and is one of the most prominent figures of the Greek music. His work, independently of his stated political views, constitutes a valuable material for the cultural education of the Greek people. Theodoros Tziatzis noted that “of course there had also been issues of disagreement between KKE and Chatzidakis. However, those never surpassed the limits of a joint quest and a sincere discussion about the need to resist the commercialization of the Art”.
The concert was performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens with the participation of the singer Vassilis Lekkas and the guitar soloists Yiannis Spathas and Eva Faba.
