Event against the EU Lisbon Treaty and the EU
NO to the EU Lisbon treaty – NO to the EUDuring an event, organized on 7th April by the Athens Branch of KKE, Aleka Papariga, General Secretary of CC of KKE stressed: “there must be held a referendum in order the Greek people to express their position towards EU and its character as an imperialist union".
Further she underlined among other things:
“We call on the communists, people working together with the Party, the members and the supporters of KNE, the left-wing radical forces that cannot tolerate injustice, inequality, exploitation from the Economic Monetary Union (EMU), “terrorlaws”, imperialist wars, to act decisively and inform the people about the campaign “NO to the EU Lisbon Treaty – NO to the EU”. We should concentrate all our forces to act and to inform as broad as possible.”
“The rejection of the EU Lisbon Treaty is an act of resistance and mobilization also for those who have not been convinced that disengagement from the EU must be a goal of struggle combined with the goal for a different form of development of the country in favor of the people and against the commitments to the choices of the imperialists. The interest of those who understand that people’s welfare is incompatible with alignment and obedience to EU is to join the communists. We should act united under the slogan of “insubordination and disobedience”.
A. Papariga highlighted the results of the recent meeting of parties and movements from the EU countries held in Athens on 15 March and their commitment for joint initiatives opposing to the new treaty and to the EU, in support of the demand for referenda in the respective countries.
The event was attended by Mehmet Kuzulugil, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and Gareth Murphy, member of the Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Ireland. The foreign guests referred to various aspects of the campaigns against the Lisbon Treaty and EU, as well as to the Referendum to be held in Ireland in June.
Various representatives of mass organizations and of the Greek social life contributed with their remarks and commitments to the success of the gathering.
