On the Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline

The need for the creation of alternatives for the transportation of oil and natural gas to our country, which is energy dependent, must not lead the popular strata to believe the celebrations of the government on the big benefits which it claims that will result from the construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupoli energy pipeline.

The big winners from the conclusion of this agreement is the European Union, Russia and the plutocracy of Greece, which makes an important step towards utilizing the country as an energy channel in the region.

Those who will benefit are the big monopoly groups that will be engaged in the realization of the project, in the energy, transportations, constructions and the banking sectors. This particular energy infrastructure will serve the profits of the big capital at the expenses of the popular needs.

The claims of the government that the energy pipeline will function, by itself, as a factor of peace and stability are unfounded when imperialist contradictions are sharpening in our region. The sharpening of the imperialist competition, as well as the relations –sometimes competitive and other times cooperative- between the Greek and the Turkish bourgeois classes, make it a factor that brings about new dangers for peace and borders stability in the region.

They way out lies in the very opposite direction: in passing the initiative from the hand of the multinationals to the Balkan people, by creating a joint anti-imperialist front of the peoples of the Balkans.

The way out lies in the people’s power and people’s economy, in the socialization of the means of production, in an exclusively state owned energy sector that will use the energy infrastructure to the benefit of the popular needs.
