Protest letter on the rehabilitation of the Romanian fascist Prime Minister I.Antonescu
To: Embassy of Romania in GreeceAthens, 28 February 2007
Sirs,
As we have been recently informed by press reports , “Marshall Ion Antonescu, head of the Iron Guard, Horia Sima and other 19 members of the Romanian government the in 1940 were acquitted for war crimes by the Bucharest’s Court of Appeals “.
In our view the tribunal rewards in fact with this decision the aggression of Hitler Germany, backed by the fascist Romanian government lead by I.Antonescu, against USSR, as well as the Nazi crimes against Romanian people and against humanity.
This decision is a provocation for all people in the world and in Greece which resisted and fought with all their forces against fascism in the resistance movements, concentration camps and prisons. It’s an act against the peoples and a blasphemy for the memory of the millions dead in the antifascist struggle. It is a decision slandering the big popular movements of today fighting against war, fascism and imperialism.
Such measures are contrary to the large reputation of the Romanian people which before as well as after the fall of Antonescu contributed so much to the antifascist struggles, for democracy, peace and a better future.
At the same time this decision constitutes a clear violation of international conventions and is an act of support to the attacks from the international imperialist institutions against the peoples’ rights.
This development, only a few days after the accession of Romania to the European Union, is not a coincidence.
It comes additionally to the unacceptable Romanian official statement on December 18, 2006, “condemning communism”, uncovering fully the real goals of the anti-communist campaign which is in process in the European Union.
We demand the immediate withdrawal of the anti-democratic and reactionary measures. We express our solidarity with the progressive forces and the people of Romania in their struggle against any type of neo-fascism, for peace and democracy.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece
