Motion: Stop anticommunism!

We, the participants to the international meeting of communist and workers’ parties in Lisbon 10-12 November 2006 express our deep concern and indignation regarding the increasing attacks against elementary political rights and democratic liberties especially in Europe.

In spite of the fact that thanks to the massive world-wide protests and mobilizations the anticommunist PACE motion on “the need for international condemnation of the crimes of totalitarian regimes” was not endorsed, the anticommunist, state backed campaign, continues. A fierce anti-communist offensive is underway that goes hand in hand with theories that promote the idea that there is no alternative to the present situation and system.

2006 was market by violent, criminal attacks and campaigns against the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and other European communist parties, by the adoption of new, discriminatory, anticommunist and antidemocratic measures by many European governments targeting directly not only the communists but now also other people who fight.

In the Baltic States and not only, activities for the official rehabilitation of the former Nazis continue, in some countries the official anticommunist campaign is already present in universities and schools.

The Communist Youth Union of the Czech Republic [KSM] was, in an authoritative way, also banned on the ground of his program “in defense of public over private ownership of the means of production”, while the Communist Party of Germany is banned since 1956.

The peak was reached with the endorsement by the European Parliament of a new anticommunist statement on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the events in Hungary. The January 2006 appeal of the PACE motion [which was rejected] regarding the need “the democratic community decisively to reject the authoritarian and antidemocratic communist ideology” was finally endorsed by the majority of the European Parliamentarians.

These measures in Europe complete similar efforts deployed all these years by the US Administration and other governments as well as the illegal detention centers, the CIA flights, the opening of new US military bases and more.

Τhe escalation of the anticommunist campaigns preludes a new round of reactionary assaults against the social and democratic liberties of the people. Its serves the accelerated preparations for new wars around the world.

We reject all these measures since they promote the criminalization of the communist ideology and of the class struggle. They legalize in fact the atrocities and the fascist politics and slander any action against imperialist wars, in defense of the peoples’ demands.

It’s not by chance that exactly in the countries with the more virulent anticommunist, antisocialist campaigns, forces with nationalist, chauvinist, xenophobic, pro fascist, anti labor and anti-democratic tendencies multiply their attacks and presence. The revision and falsification of the historical truth, the nihilistic and anti-historic approach of the October Revolution and the contribution of socialism in Europe also feed them.

We call upon all people and progressive forces to massively express rejection to the attempt to criminalize the communist ideology.

To defend the historical truth irrespectively of the opinion they hold about the socialism in the 20th century.

We demand:
  • Immediate stop the anti-communist campaigns.
  • No to the banning of KSM
  • Lifting of all legal restrictions to the political activity of the communist parties. No to the penalization of the communist ideas and ideology.
  • No discriminations against the communists in the workplaces, the public sector and administration. The right to work is for all.
  • No to the anticommunist distortions in the school textbooks. No to the creation of State Anti-communist Institutions
  • Stop the reinstatement of the collaborators of the fascists.
