Higher Education has become a business
29.06.2006
"In essence, the ND Government opened the half-closed doors PASOK left behind. There are no significant differences between PASOK and ND’s proposals. Especially when it comes to education, I have tried hard to spot the differences."
Al. Papariga attacked both ND and PASOK, saying the Revision of the Constitution is an effort to turn higher education into a business. "KKE is in favour of free education without exceptions," she noted.
Protest Rally at Parliament
University professors and students backed by PAME staged another street protest outside the Parliament building on the occasion of the debate on the much controversial Article 16, which relates to the public nature of Education. The protesters blockaded Amalias Avenue, hanging a large banner in front of the Unknown Soldier monument and alongside Parliament, which read "No Participation in their dialogue – Free education for every student. ’No’ to the Framework Law. ’No’ to the review of Article 16. ’No’ to Privatisation. The Panhellenic Steering Committee of University and TEI Students." Following, the protesters burned three rag models, symbolising the decisions of Bologna, OECD and the framework law, naming their symbolic act as "the burning of the deplorable".
