Honoring the 60 years from the creation of the Democratic Army of Greece
Last Sunday, March 12th, the communists of Western Macedonia, commemorated the 60 years from the creation of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) with a spare, unadorned event in the city of Florina at northern Greece. The event was organized by the Regional Organization of Western Macedonia of KKE, the Regional Committee of the Pan-Hellenic Association of National Resistance Fighters (PEAEA) and the Association of friends and descendants of national resistance and democratic army fighters. |
The event attended a delegation of the CC of KKE headed by the member of the PB Theodosis Kosntadinidis, and also participated invited delegations from the Communist Party of Macedonia headed by its vice-chairman Pero Otzaclievski and representatives of Greek political refugees that live till today in FYROM because the Greek authorities still deny them the right to repatriation.
The secretary of the local KKE organization in his speech underscored that: “The struggle of DSE was a progressive, anti-imperialist, class struggle, a struggle for the power of the people. Irrespectively of its outcome, it left an important historical legacy: of heroism and self-sacrifice; of resistance against imperialism under extremely hard and difficult conditions; of the struggle for the rights of the working people, for national independence, democracy and social progress.”
The event culminated in with a mass rally in the streets of Florina, where prevailed the slogans against the imperialist new order and the plans for border changes in the region, against NATO presence and for Balkans of peace and friendship of the peoples.
The rally ended at the field were the deadly battle of Florina took place on the February of 1949, and a memorial was inaugurated in memory of the 850 fighters of the Democratic Army that fell in that battle.
