MEPs on the 60th anniversary of the end of the World War II

Strasbourg, 12/5/2005

NO TO THE FABRICATION AND FALSIFICATION OF HISTORY
LONG LIVE MAY 9th, DAY OF THE PEOPLES' VICTORY
OVER FASCISM!

The MEPs undersigned are against the Resolution and the falsification of history facts on the sixtieth anniversary of the victory over fascism. They refuse to agree to the desecration and insult to the memory of the millions of people who gave their lives, so that fascism could be defeated.

The repugnant Resolution tabled by the Foreign Affairs Committee, distorting and profaning the historical truth, slandering the communists and the Soviet Union, which was the decisive factor in the defeat of fascism, attempts to poison the minds of younger generations so that they will accept the crimes committed by imperialism today and not fight to overthrow it. This resolution seeks to hide the fact that fascism was born of capitalism and fostered by it. It has been supported by the political forces that accept capitalism and serve it. It tries to hide the fact that the Second World War resulted from the great exacerbation of intra- imperialist differences over the re-division of the world and that the common enemy which they wished to get rid of was the Soviet Union, the first socialist state.

Playing a leading role in erasing historical memory, the EU has already set 9th May as the "Day of Europe", deleting the "Day of the peoples' victory". The Commission's declaration along with the inadmissible, unspeakable resolution call the liberation of the Eastern European countries occupation, thus advocating and politically supporting the restoration of the Hitlerian symbols in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe, agreeing to the policy of Baltic governments which are persecuting antifascists and praising the collaborators of the SS, applauding the policy according to which in Germany and Austria those who deserted the German Army are considered to be a "national disgrace", while fascists are being rehabilitated materially and morally as "national heroes".

No falsification will wipe out the epics of Stalingrad, Leningrad, Moscow, Kursk and Sevastopol, nor can it stain the countless sacrifices made by the Communists of the Soviet Union, Europe and the world.

No resolution of the European Parliament can erase the raising of the red flag over the Reichstag, the act of which symbolised the victory of the socialism over fascism.

All the more, however rabid the imperialist offensive may be, it will not step the evolution of society towards socialism.

Now the sixty years have passed, the message of the victory over fascism is alive and timely. It is linked to the united and victorious struggle of the peoples against imperialist barbarity, which will meet the same fate as the fascist axis did- it will be crushed.
