Protest against anti-communist motion of PACE
Protest Against Anti-Communist Motion of PACE
To: Mr. René van der Linden
Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
Mr. President
I am politically and morally obliged facing the living history of people, to address to you asking you to interact so that the report entitled "Need for International Condemnation of Communism" is rejected.
Dear Mr. President
One and only sincere reading of the Memorandum prepared by the Commission reveals its unacceptable context, intended to provoke extremely negative consequences to the democratic climate in Europe. Because:
The text as it stands, confesses the aim of directly restricting the political power and impact of Communist ideas and Parties.
It appears, unfortunately, as dangerous starting bell of another "witch hunting" in 21st century Europe.
Despises and insults the options and the historical paths followed by many people and nations.
Last but not least, the report directly disputes the basic democratic liberties and rights for the defense of which the Council of Europe was founded. And traumatizes the relations Council of Europe holds with a great number of countries in and out of its institutions.
It is obvious that the adoption of this report will be nothing more than a "totalitarian" negative and dangerous evolution of the Council of Europe's future. Therefore, no matter the political and ideological differences of its members, the report must be utterly rejected.
Sincerely,
LIANA KANELLI*
