Message of solidarity to the CP USA

The people of our country follow with shock, anger and indignation the tragic pictures of the thousands of victims and the huge disaster caused by the Hurricane Katrina and the criminal indifference of the US government.
We kindly ask you to convey the sympathy and solidarity of the Greek communists to the families of the victims, the millions of workers, of the poor and racially excluded that, once more, have been the first to pay the heavier price.
The tragedy of New Orleans reveals once more a social system that for the shake of profits does not matters for life and death. There is absolutely no excuse for the government of the technologically, economically and military most powerful capitalist country in the world, that has shown so provocative indifference for the consequences of a perfectly predictable natural catastrophe. All the more so if we consider the fact that a much smaller country, the incomparably weaker economically socialist Cuba managed to deal recently, like every year, with similar phenomena without human casualties.
What hit New Orleans was capitalism which sacrifices deliberately human lives for the sake of profits abandoning to their fate the victims of natural disasters. This is also demonstrated in the case of the war in Iraq, of the greenhouse effect, of the overexploitation of the natural resources.
In Cuba socialism proves in fact its social and cultural superiority since it puts the peoples' welfare above all.
We join our voice with all those that demand the effective intervention of the federal government with the mobilization of all necessary financial and human resources, the withdrawal of the troops from Iraq, immediate measures of reconstruction and relief for the hit populations.
