Thousands pay tribute to H. Florakis his farewell later
Thousands of people of all ages gathered yesterday and today at the headquarters of the CC of KKE to bid their last respects and pay tribute to Harilaos Florakis, the late historical leader of KKE.
The burial of comrade Harilaos Florakis will take place tomorrow, Thursday 26th May at Paliozoglopi in the mountains of Agrapha, as he had wished.
In the September of 1994 he wrote a “farewell letter” and handed it over to the General Secretary of the CC, Aleka Papariga. In that letter, which was opened after his passing, he mentions:
“I do not call this paper a testament, because I have nothing to bequeath. Whatever belongings I had I have given to the Party, to the Communist Party of Greece with its well-known symbols, its Marxist-Leninist ideology, its program and its principles. Nor do I have anything to leave politically. Whatever I had I have given through my specific action. I do not consider it appropriate to leave political advice.
I want to return and be buried where I was born, at Paliozoglopi, Ailia, on high ground with a view. My grave should be simple, but fenced round so that wild animals will not unearth me.
I do not want speeches or wreaths. These should rather be expressed in the form of help given to the Party.

The last farewell (the civil funeral) will be held today at 16:00 the headquarters of the CC. in which All the political leaders of the country will be present. Also present will be the General Secretary of AKEL Dimitris Hristofias, Albano Nunes, member of the Political Commission of the Portuguese CP and a delegation of the Lebanese CP. Hundreds of messages of condolences have arrived at the CC of KKE from communist and workers’ parties, anti-imperialist forces and movements, trade unions, personalities and even ordinary people. |
