Political Resolution
The 17th Congress approves the theses of the CC of the KKE, after taking into account the discussion and votes in favour in the branches and in the conferences of the higher bodies. It also approves the report of the CC and the recommendation of the Central Audit Committee.
With these documents as a basis and after taking into account the observations of the members of the party in the pre-congress assemblies and conferences, the 17th Congress publishes the following political decision which specifies and makes clear the duties of the party for the period until the 18th Congress.
The Congress takes into consideration the experience of the rebuilding of the party which began at the 14th Congress and continued in the years after and supports the assessments in the theses of the CC.
The process of rebuilding the party which has made progress in recent years confirms the vitality of communists ideas.
The aim of the class enemy to sideline the party, to eliminate its social-political weight which it had acquired during its historical march was not successful. If in the period 1989-91 the KKE had dissolved or had changed into a party with a social-democratic orientation, the void in the popular movement would be vast.
The thousands of members, friends, supporters and allies of the KKE, progressive people with their proposals and thoughts , their activity close to the party , their support for its initiatives, contributed to the positive and upward progress of the party.
Taking as a starting point the first conclusions for the causes and factors which led to the success of the counterrevolutions in the former socialist countries, the party defended the attempt to construct socialism in the 20th century, its contribution to the working class and peoples of the world., for the possibility for the working class and its allies to win power, for the abolishment of capitalist exploitation. At the same time it pinpointed mistakes and distortions which contributed to the victory of the counterrevolutions.
The valuable lesson for the party is that in the conditions of imperialist offensive, the retreat and crisis of the communist movement, in order to withstand these difficulties it is necessary to have firmness in our Marxist-Leninist ideology, in the principles and virtues of the revolutionary workers movement and in socialism. To examine critically and self-critically the party’s work. To work for the development of modern theoretical elaborations of our ideology, to have the ability to make predictions and to readjust its activity as the situation demands.
Today the KKE, more experienced, more mature and more battle-hardened, can answer the demands of the contemporary working class and popular movement with greater competence.
The 17th Congress makes the assessment that the Party , based on the decisions and programme of the 17th Congress, struggled for the social rights of the working class, small farmers, the lower middle strata, women and youth.
After the 16th Congress, the Party intervened more powerfully politically, made an impact in the ranks of the mass movement. It proceeded with initiatives for the rallying of forces and alliances to create the preconditions for the setting up of the Anti-Imperialist Anti-Monopoly Democratic Front. It took similar initiatives in electoral contests in the form of broader candidate lists and committees which contributed to the positive electoral results. It articulated widely to the Greek people with firmness and daring the need to fight for the peoples economy and peoples power, to disengage the country from the EU and NATO, to socialise the central means of production and concerning the question of producers cooperatives.
