Info About The 17th Congress
The 17th Congress of KKE concluded its works on February 12 with the election of the new 77-member CC of the Party. The newly elected CC in its first meeting re-elected Aleka Papariga as its General Secretary.
The Congress took place In Athens from the 9th until the 12th of February 2005 at the Congress Hall of the HQ of the CC of KKE under the banner "A strong KKE. For the People, For the Popular Alliance, For Socialism".
The congress reviewed the experience of the regroupment of the party which began with the 14th Congress, and focused on the ideological, political and organizational strengthening of the party.
The participation of the party members in the Assemblies of the Party Base Organizations that discussed the theses of the CC reached the 70,25% of the total membership, while the 75% of the absences were justified. The Theses met the overwhelming approval of the party members, with only 19 negative votes and 59 blank votes in all the assemblies for the Congress.
The Congress adopted unanimously two resolutions:
The Congress was attended by delegations of 75 Communist, Workers’ and anti-imperialist parties from other countries.

- Resolution concerning the situation in the International Communist Movement
