KKE appeals to the voters to condemn both the ruling Nea Dimokratia and PASOK and strengthen the KKE

16th September 2007, earlier general elections in Greece.

Putting an end to the speculations during the last months about early elections, the conservative government of Nea Dimokratia announced on 16th August 2007, the date of 16th September 2007 as day for general elections, which normally had to be held in March 2008.

The Prime Minister's argument was the "need for the government to renew support in view of the necessity to promote more resolutely the "reforms" [especially the reactionary measures regarding the desmanteling of the social security system, the implementation of the "Green Book of EU" regarding the labour relations and rights, the further privatization of the public education, see ports, airports, telecommunications and transport, the changes in the constitution of the country giving new possibilities of action for the big business].

KKE calls upon the working people to realize their strength and give an answer to both Nea Dimokratia and PASOK parties who implement the same political strategy. A stronger KKE will put obstacles to the measures the ND and Pasok parties would implement the following day of the elections – especially regarding the industrial relations, the pensions, the health, education and social security system- irrespectively who will win the elections.

KKE argues that there is wealth in the society capable to meet the modern needs of the working people. Precondition for this is a people’s economy and a power that will serve the interests of the people and not of the plutocracy.

KKE is confident on the outcome of the electoral battle and expects to increase its voting beyond the 5,9% it achieved at the previous general elections in 2004.
